The ‘Willows Literary Canon’ consists of 100 texts that you should aim to read before you leave school. These texts are all well-known classics. Acquiring familiarity with these texts will stand you in good stead in the future. You will be able to understand cultural references in the wider world. You will be able to match and excel your peers’ knowledge at University.
Many of these texts are available in the school library. All of the texts are available from any Cardiff Library. Some of the texts will be read in class but you are expected to read most of them individually at home (minimum of 20 minutes per night). After completing a text, you must complete the ‘Accelerated Reader’ quiz and write your review in your reading journal.
Remember the amount of reading that you complete will not only lead to you being awarded your reading badges but to a successful future.
