Raising Achievement

Simon Thomas

Head of Raising Achievement

Where you are tomorrow begins with what you do today.

Why is Raising Achievement Important?

Achievement lessons help you to understand how you learn, and how you can ensure that you retain what you have learnt. Through these lessons you will become a better learner in all other subjects as you will understand when to revisit topics to ensure you don’t forget the knowledge covered and how to ensure that you are able to utilise everything you have been taught in any situation or context.

What Will I Learn At Key Stage 3?

Strategies to help you become a better learner such as; how to use flashcards, what for and how frequently. Your achievement lessons help you to prepare for end of term tests to ensure that basic skills and knowledge at KS3 is deeply embedded to carry you through KS4.

What Will I Learn At Key Stage 4?

Your Achievement lessons help to prepare you for exams. You will learn how and when to revise and understand which revision strategies best suit the type of learning you need. Using what you learn in your Achievement lessons and working regularly on a clear revision plan will ensure all learners achieve their best GCSE grades in all their subjects.

What Topics Are Covered At Key Stage 4?

The revision strategies we work on in Achievement lessons are; dual coding, interleaving, flashcards, retrieval practice, Cornell Notes, self-quizzing, redrafting and summarising. Through effective use of these strategies learners are able to see gaps in their knowledge and address them to ensure their future exam success.
